She was originally a professional actress and model. After gaining fame internationally then she began to act. She began her career as an actor in 1995 when she appeared on the tv show Baywatch Nights. Her voice-over work included animated versions of the film Batman Beyond Return of the Joker. The beginning of 2000 was when Harmon made the decision to concentrate on film and stop working on TV shows.
